My Fab 5 of the Week!

What a longggg week!
1. Miss Lily loved laying on my lap while I was studying.

2. I changed the background on my blog.

3. I found some great clear mascara for my "no-makeup" days. Even on the days where I lay around the house in no make up, I still feel the need in wearing mascara. Weird, I know!

4. I finally got around to reading March's Instyle magazine.

5. Cadbury Mini Eggs! My FAVORITE Easter candy!!!!!!

Perfume Roulette

When I go shopping at Ross, TJ Maxx or Marshall's, I like to play a little game called Perfume Roulette.  I love expensive perfume but refuse to pay full price for them.  When they are on clearance for less than $15 I'll buy them.  It really is a game of Roulette.  You have no idea if the perfume is going to smell good or like that old lady at church who reeks of some sort of Elizabeth Taylor and insists on hugging you. It's really quite fun.  If I don't like it, I'll just give it to someone in my family who likes it.

I love The DKNY apple perfumes.  So when I saw this, I figured I'd like it too.  I am sooo glad I got it because this is my new favorite.

Wardrobe Wednesday

It's a freezing Pennsylvania day! When I woke up this morning and saw more snow the only thing I wanted to wear was my favorite hoodie! Today is strictly for comfort.

Diamond Candles

Have you ever heard of Diamond Candles?

I saw a lot of girls ordering them so I thought I'd give it a try.
I went to the website, ordered the candle and waited until it was delivered.  I was super excited once I got it.  I lit it that night and let it burn. The next day I lit it again and let it burn several hours.  Once it got to the point where I could see the foil I dug it out.  This is the ring I got!

You can get a ring worth anywhere from $5 to $5,000 in each candle.  That is what makes it so much fun! I love the surprise!

Have you ever ordered one? If so, what did your ring look like??

Make Your Own Wedding Veil

Throughout the years I have made many friends and family their wedding veils and flowers.  Veils are so darn expensive! It all started with my friend B.  She was the first to have a wedding in my group of friends.  When we went dress shopping we were looking at veils.  I picked up a plain one and was shocked at the price! It was ridiculous just for a piece of tulle and some satin cord. So I went to Hobby Lobby, bought a plain wedding veil with a comb, (because I am too lazy to get tulle and sew a comb to it) white satin cord, transparent thread and made one.  It was so easy!

This was the first one I made.
(There is a another layer to it, but got cut out of the picture)

I had made many of these since 2007.
Last summer I had a friend ask me to make another one for her wedding. I was delighted! I had only made veils with two layers in the past.  She asked me to make a cathedral length veil, 3 layers and trimmed.  Say what? This was the end of July. So I ordered the veil online and got it a month later! (Apparently, when you order from China it takes that long!) I had a month and a half to make this veil.  Then she dropped another bomb on me: She not only wanted one, but two veils! One for the ceremony and another for the reception.  Now I was panicked.  I missed out on a lot of school work and studying just working on this veil. My grades really started slipping because I poured my heart & soul into this veil.

This is how I did it:
First I got the veil.

Next I found the trim.  I took a picture of the beading on her belt and this was the only trim I could find that matched the best.  She didn't really seem to worried about what trim I used. So I tried my best.

Next, find some transparent thread.

Start sewing along the edge of the tulle. I sewed this along all three layers. Then I sewed it again just to make sure it wouldn't come apart. I was running out of time so I had my sister Casey Jo help me with reinforcing the last layer.

Next, I took little rhinestones and hot glued them to the bottom layers of veil.

After it is glued on.

This is what it looked like after it was finished.  I was going to wait and post a picture of the veil on her wedding day....but it never happened.  I'll tell you why later.

So, on to the second veil!

Next, I sewed this trim on the reception veil.

This is the finished product.
I know it looks bad now, but once it is steamed, it looks beautiful.

Well, after I finished the veils I gave them to my friend.  The next day, she called and told me she didn't like the cathedral length one.  Her sister took out all the stitching.  All the hard work I had put into it.  I also helped her get ready for her wedding, did her hair, make up and helped the photographer take pictures. I bit my tongue the whole time. Then, when I went to the reception, SHE
WASN'T EVEN WEARING THE SECOND VEIL I MADE HER!!!!!! Her sister must have bought her another veil.  I have never been that hurt.  I would have totally understood if she would have told me from the beginning she didn't like it, or just acknowledged that I put a lot of hard work into it. It's her wedding, and I just wanted her to feel beautiful. If she didn't like it, she didn't like it, I would have understood. But, I NEVER EVEN GOT A SINGLE THANK YOU! That is what hurt me more than anything.  We have been friends for years. I haven't talked to her since the wedding and she hasn't even bothered to call me.  Lesson learned.

Veils are so easy to make!
Sorry about the book I just wrote!
